In December (2020), Isaac Smart, a player on the Waukesha PWC-Black team had his hockey season come to an abrupt and unexpected end. After several weeks of severe headaches and jaw pain, an MRI on December 15th revealed a large mass behind Isaac’s naval cavity, which was later identified as Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. Isaac has begun an aggressive treatment regiment of Chemotherapy and a specialized form of radiation therapy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
At OYHA we know that hockey IS family, and we support Isaac and his family during their battle against cancer.
The Smart family has conveyed that playing hockey is the number one thing Isaac talks about with his Doctors and Nurses. His desire to get back on the ice provides tremendous and necessary motivation as he endures this battle. Our support is a small way our Ice Dogs Family can help to keep his fighting spirit #IsaacStrong!
During the State Championship this weekend, our PWC-White team will be wearing Isaac's number on their helmets as a unified display of solidarity and support.
For those that are willing and able to contribute, a GoFundMe site has been set-up on behalf of Isaac and his family to help off-set the significant financial burden this diagnosis and treatment plan presents. A link to the site is provided below and can be easily shared via your personal social media platforms. You can also contribute via PayPal to OYHA Fundraising and the organization will make a one-time donation.
Any contribution is greatly appreciated by the Smart Family and the Waukesha Warhawks Community.
