Hello perspective Ice Hockey Officials for the 2021-22 season!

Hello, my name is Mike Hester, I am the Director of Officiating for Ozaukee Ice Center and I also schedule officials for Milwaukee Winter Club.

While I understand that many of you are working on baseball, soccer or just taking time off this summer. I wanted to reach out to you early on in the summer so that if any of you are interested in being officials next season that you have some time to plan over the next couple of months prior to the start of the season.

If any of you are interested in being an official for next year I ask that you send me and email with the following information:

Name

Address

Email

Phone

Date of Birth

(In the state of Wisconsin you have to be 12 years old by December 31st to be able to officiate games at the youth Level due to Labor Laws.)

THERE ARE 6 STEPS YOU MUST COMPLETE TO BECOME A REGISTERED USA HOCKEY OFFICIAL IN WISCONSIN:

STEP 1: Register to become a USA Hockey official and pay the fee. This USA Hockey registration is separate from player and coach registration. Once you register, you will receive your 2021-2024 rule book and addition information about on-line training modules and taking your open book test.  Here’s the link for USA Hockey officiating registration: https://membership.usahockey.com/

The Member registration is going live on June 1st and you can register with USA Hockey right away.

STEP 2: You must select seminar you will attend for your officiating level through WHOA. This is the Wisconsin Hockey Officials Association. https://www.wihoa.org

This step is not live yet and in years past this could not be done until August 1st. As I get information I will let the association know. So please make sure you give me your contact information so I can keep you updated on the registration deadlines, etc.

STEP 3:  You must register to officiate in Wisconsin by joining WHOA and pay your fee of $17 for 2021-22 season.  Also, as part of joining WHOA you must select and signup for the your Level 1 seminar on the same date/location as the one you selected in STEP 2 https://secure.offserv.com/whoa/members/reg_register.asp

Once again this step is not live yet but I will let you know when you are able to sign up with WHOA.

STEP 4:  Complete on-line training modules through USA Hockey.  USA Hockey will send you information about their training modules once your register

STEP 5: Complete the Level 1 Open Book Test through USA Hockey

More information about becoming an official and the registration process can be found at the WHOA website: https://www.wihoa.org/

STEP 6: All new level 1 officials I ask that you attend an in person training seminar held at Milwaukee Winter Club, Ozaukee Ice Center, or Kettle Moraine Ice center. These training sessions will be held after the season starts and are in addition to the USA Hockey Seminar that you will attend.

Last year due to Covid most of the Seminars were are handled virtually. With things getting back to normal it appears that WHOA will be going back to in person seminars. However there is a chance that USA Hockey and WHOA may keep some Virtual options for seminars. So as I learn more I will reach out to you.

Please email me at mhester@borgindak.com or call my cell ( 262-215-2050)  should you have any questions or need help with completing the registration process.

I invite you to officiate, I’m sure you will find it to be a rewarding experience.

Thanks, I look forwards to meeting and speaking with you in the future.

Michael Hester
