OYHA 2021/22 Covid-19 Policies and Procedures

Ozaukee Youth Hockey Association COVID 19 Policy and Procedures

(Updated 9/23/2021)

This document is designed to outline the policies and procedures that Ozaukee Youth Hockey will follow in regards to COVID-19. Ensuring a safe and successful season is going to be a partnership between all parties involved. Regulations and recommendations around COVID-19 can change quickly and we will continue to update our families as new information and policy and procedure updates become available.

Ozaukee Youth Hockey COVID Coordinators:

Jimmy Papachristou - JPAPACHRISTOU@shorewest.com - 414-331-9060

Marissa Harrington - mlimmany@gmail.com 414-331-9180

Health Screening:

All players, coaches, managers, and anyone who will enter the facility should complete a health screening prior to coming to the rink. If the answer to any of these questions is yes - the person should not come to the rink.

  1. Have you or anyone in your household had a sore throat, cough, chills, body aches, shortness of breath, loss of smell, loss of taste, fever at or greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the last 21 days?

  2. Have you or anyone in your household been tested for COVID-19?

  3. To the best of your knowledge have you been in close proximity to any individual who tested positive for COVID-19?

  4. Any individual answering “yes” or having a temperature above 100.4 should follow their physician’s recommendations for when it is safe to return to activity.

Illness:

Any player, coach, or spectator exhibiting symptoms or signs of an illness should not be in the facility at any point. If a player, coach, or spectator starts to feel ill, they should immediately leave the facility.

If a player feels ill and their guardian can not be located they will be separated from team activities until they can be picked up. All appropriate SafeSport guidelines will be followed.

Individuals who are sick should not return until they have met the CDC requirements to discontinue home isolation.

Face Coverings:

Face coverings are not currently mandated in our county. Other rinks and counties may have different requirements. Coaches and Managers need to check and be aware that face coverings may be needed at other rinks.

Protecting Yourself and Others:

Families are encouraged to review and follow the CDC guidelines for protecting yourself and others. How to Protect Yourself & Others | CDC

Spectators:

There are currently no COVID specific spectator limits at Ozaukee Ice Center. Other rinks may have limits and it is expected that our families will follow these limits at other rinks. Managers and Coaches should verify these requirements prior to traveling.

If the OYHA Committee or HDC is notified that any other organization was given a hard time about policies or spectator limits, the families and teams will be subject to disciplinary action.

Positive COVID 19 Process:

  1. Inform the OYHA COVID Coordinator (Jimmy Papchristou or Marissa Harrington) of the positive COVID 19 test or suspected exposure.

  2. Immediately separate coaches, staff, officials, and players with COVID-19 symptoms (i.e., fever, cough, shortness of breath) at any youth sports activity. Individuals who are sick should go home or to a healthcare facility, depending on how severe their symptoms are, and follow CDC guidance for caring for oneself and others who are sick. Individuals who have had close contact with a person who has symptoms should be separated and sent home as well, and follow CDC guidance for community-related exposure. If symptoms develop, individuals and families should follow CDC guidance for caring for oneself and others who are sick.

  3. The COVID Coordinator will alert rink staff so cleaning and disinfecting can take place

Personal Hygiene:

  • Wash hands frequently, for at least 20 seconds with soap and water or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

  • Do not touch your face.

  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or the bend of your elbow, dispose of the tissue and wash/ sanitize hands immediately.

  • Do not share water bottles, towels or other equipment. Mark them clearly so you know which one is yours.

  • Clean/disinfect equipment after each use.

Equipment & Training Gear:

  • Where possible, use individual equipment.

    • Do not share personal equipment or gear (e.g. water bottles, towels, etc)

    • Sanitize sports or exercise equipment after each training session.

    • Wash all training gear after each training session.

Instructions will be provided to families on how to sanitize the Mite/8U

goalie bag and for any other team where goalie equipment may need to be shared.

Best Practices:

Coaches and families are encouraged to continue to utilize the best practices we learned last season.

  • When possible hold team meetings and warm-ups outside

  • Families may continue to use the parking lot and lobbies for changing if they are more comfortable there than in the locker rooms

  • Don’t share water bottles

  • Limit time in large groups and social distance where possible
